You either love or hate them; RPG Maker games. To me the oldschool Rm2k is history like a videogame console. Nowadays I play those on the Free and Open Source EasyRPG Player. This post has some game suggestions and sources compatible with EasyRPG.

I recently went back to RPG Maker games and wanted to explore again. Unfortunately the biggest international community of RPG Maker rpgmaker.net has been closed down for a while now. Situation is unclear and if they will ever come back. This makes it a bit difficult to find interesting Maker games, as many other website are often neglected and download links no longer work.

My main focus is at RPG Maker 2000 and 2003 games, compatible with the Free and Open Source EasyRPG Player from the EasyRPG project. I mainly play those games with the EasyRPG core in RetroArch, but the player is available for many other systems as well. Some games might require the RTP, so you should install them. If you want, read my previous article about EasyRPG in RetroArch, where I describe this a bit in detail (it gets technical and is Linux focused).
Where to get Games
You can get ready to use and repackaged games from following preservation uploads. Note the later Game Suggestions on this page are included in these following downloadable collections:
- EasyRPG_Games by Game Friend in 2018 – Download Everything / Files Listing / Show Details Page: A collection of 271 RPG Maker 2000 and 2003 games compatible with EasyRPG player. All of these are either homebrew, free or demos of commercial games. The set is about 10.5 GB big.
- EasyRPG Repacks by thingsiplay in 2025 – Download Everything / Files Listing / Show Details Page: A similar collection of 37 RPG Maker 2000 and 2003 games compatible with EasyRPG player. These are downloaded from various communities. This set is about 2 GB big. It contains lot of games in German language too (filenames are named accordingly as an indication if the language is not English) and is meant to be an addition to the above set from Game Friend.
This should give you a bit to explore. Many games are lost and not included here, unfortunately.
rpgmaker.net

If you are interested, read a discussion about the current situation of rpgmaker.net: What’s going on with rpgmaker.net? At the moment its unclear when, if and how they will come back. At least the games are archived and ready for download. The only problem for us is, the required RPG Maker version for the games are not listed. EasyRPG can only play 2000 and 2003 compatible games. Not all projects on rpgmaker.net are compatible.
- RMN Archive: An archive of over 7000 games! But no description, screenshot or required Maker version listed.
- rpgmaker-net-game-archive: Upload of 3824 games on archive.org with screenshots. But again the Maker version information is missing.
Game Suggestions
Yesterday I went to the German community RPG Atelier and gone through their listings for Maker 2000 and 2003. Most of these games are in German, some are available in English. Unfortunately many games on this site are lost or no longer available, which saddens me. These 12 are the newest additions (which does not mean that the games themselves are new) to my personal collection.
The Original download link is a direct download from their projects page. An Archive link means, its the repackaged ZIP from Internet Archive, ready to be used for EasyRPG. This is what you most likely want. If you want visit and learn more about the project, then click the game title itself.

Enough is enough
At this point I usually have further links. But the post already is full of them. The only thing I want to mention is that you might be interested into my previous post RPG Maker Games in RetroArch about this subject, as this one is basically an addendum to it. Okay, and some video links, I couldn’t resist. Have a nice day.

I can only imagine how different my gaming life would be if I knew of RPG Maker back in the 2000s. That looks like a lot of fun!
